Very little of conventional music moves me these days. That’s why I’ve almost entirely abandoned traditional radio (except for talk radio) and listen almost exclusively to Pandora.com. But beyond simple listening pleasure, every once in a great while, it seems a song will jump out at me and resonate much deeper than its catchy pop riff could intone. “When My Time Comes” by Dawes just happens to be one of those songs for me. They have a sound and sophistication reminiscent of the Eagles with just a hint of the satire and wit of Barenaked Ladies. Wrap all that with the hauntingly beautiful harmonies in this song, and you have an incredible package layered with lyrics that are as good as any I’ve heard in a very long time.
